I’m excited about this book.
Fated, by Benedict Jacka is a new Urban Fantasy release from Orbit, and after having read this review by BookThing! and hearing from people on the Twitterverse that Fated is “cracking” and a “really good book” I went ahead and ordered a copy. Following The Dresden Files I caught the Urban Fantasy bug, but I am useless at finding new books, let alone in a branch of the genre with which I’m less familiar.
On Goodreads, the synopsis reads something like this:
Alex Verus is part of a world hidden in plain sight, running a magic shop in London. And while Alex’s own powers aren’t as showy as some mages, he does have the advantage of foreseeing the possible future–allowing him to pull off operations that have a million-to-one-chance of success.
But when Alex is approached by multiple factions to crack open a relic from a long-ago mage war, he knows that whatever’s inside must be beyond powerful. And thanks to his abilities, Alex can predict that by taking the job, his odds of survival are about to go from slim to none…
Since Amazon sets the release date for the UK version of this as the beginning of March, Fated will be my birthday read, so I’m hoping for something good to read over the weekend when friends are here and we’re watching movies. I’m also hoping for a great new Urban Fantasy to get my teeth into.
